Glastonbury & Glastonbury Abbey

  • Glastonbury Dragons Wild Hunt — Saturday 25 October: a seasonal procession through the town with drumming, street theatre, fire displays and ritual performance.

  • Glastonbury Zombie Walk — Friday 31 October: a family‑friendly parade costumed as zombies, raising funds for Children’s World charity.

  • Samhain at Glastonbury — also 31 October: a community gathering marking the ancient festival of Samhain with seasonal ritual and ceremony.

  • Family Craft Activities at Glastonbury Abbey — during half term (25‑29 Oct): make a pipe cleaner spider (25 Oct), animal masks (27 Oct), and stained-glass effect bookmarks. Materials supplied; small fee (£2.50) in addition to Abbey admission.

Wells Cathedral & Cathedral Green, Wells

  • Half‑Term Holiday “Art Adventures” Workshops — Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 October, 10:30‑15:30 each day. Drop‑in art sessions inspired by installations, e.g. “Branching Out”, “Willow and Windows”, “Decorate a Deck”. Free with adult entry; no booking required.

  • Free “Art with Leaves” Workshops — Wednesday 26 October, 10:00‑12:00 & 13:00‑15:00 in the Cathedral Education Room. All materials provided. Also, Nature Trail tours at 11:30 and 14:30 in the Cathedral looking for themed leaves.

  • Saints Discovery Trail & Souvenir Badge Crafting — during half term. Children can pick up a free trail and on Wednesday (28 Oct) make a souvenir badge (13:00‑15:00) in the Cathedral Education Room

  • Half Term “Calligraphy” Workshop — at Wells Cathedral: learn medieval handwriting, view manuscripts, try creating your own, including use of a quill. Fee ~£2 per person

Bishop’s Palace & Gardens, Wells

  • October Half Term at The Bishop’s Palace — 25 Oct to 2 Nov: explore 14 acres of autumn gardens, multimedia family tours of the historic palace.

  • The Time Travelling Carpenter — Saturday 25 October (10:00‑12:00 & 12:30‑15:00) — an interactive event for kids with hands-on activities.

  • Nature Ninjas — Thursday 30 October, 11:00‑15:00 — nature-themed adventure sessions for children

  • Dragon’s Lair experience — a themed interactive activity (part of the family‑friendly events) tied into the legend of Bishop Jocelin’s battle with a dragon.

Avalon Marshes & Surrounding Areas

  • Guided nature walks and marsh / wetland birdwatching tours

  • Wildlife hide sessions (especially at dusk)

  • Junior ranger / family trails at reserve visitor centres

  • Evening bat walks or moth nights

  • Photography walks at sunrise / sunset

Shoemakers Museum, Street, Somerset

  • “Making With Me” — a family activity session on 27 October from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

  • Regular museum opening: daily 10:00am to 5:00pm.

  • Enjoy the gardens and walled orchard, café and the interactive galleries.

Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford (near Yeovil), Somerset

  • October Half Term Fun (25 Oct – 2 Nov 2025): family trails, interactive exhibits, RC racing and hands‑on motoring fun

  • “Track or Treat” Halloween Trail (26 Oct – 3 Nov): a spooky family trail through the museum with clues, riddles and surprises.

  • Haunted Haynes: dress up, pumpkin carving, spooky snacks, Halloween trail sheet.

Fleet Air Arm Museum, RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset

  • Regular opening during school holidays, daily 10:00am to 4:30pm. Explore immersive exhibitions including Concorde 002, the Aircraft Carrier Experience, interactive displays, and aviation history.

Longleat, Wiltshire (within driving distance)

  • Great British Autumn event: 25 October – 2 November 2025 — enjoy autumn crafts, Top Trumps trail, wildlife talks, indoor stage shows, bird of prey displays, willow weaving, wooden skittles, safari drives, and more.

  • Ghost Tours at Longleat House (4 times daily) during half term — guided spooky tours through house corridors, cellars and attics.

  • Fantastic Fireworks (1–3 November) as part of the autumn and Halloween celebrations
